My Shop

I am proud to be environmentally conscious. I enjoy the outdoors and I am thankful that I live in America where we work towards protecting this resource. I have visited many parts of the world where this is not the case. Once on a trip to Asia I could not see the sun because of the smog. I saw a river with no fish. I saw people pouring toxic materials in the ground because they either didn’t care or they were ignorant as to the effects. It made me sad to witness this. I promise that at My Shop, business will be done in an eco-friendly manner.

Repairs and Maintenance:

The car companies have put a great deal of effort into reducing the amount of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and oxides of nitrogen produced by the modern automobile. They have done a good job. The amount of these pollutants coming out of the tailpipe has significantly dropped over the last 30 years. I believe it is part of my job to support that effort.

Did you know that something as simple as using the wrong type of engine oil can increase the pollutants made by your car? Improper repair methods or parts can dramatically increase the ‘bad stuff’ coming out of your car. (Drivability and gas mileage suffer along with this) My commitment is to properly repair and maintain cars in regard to emissions. I won’t try to be smarter than the design engineers.

Waste and Recyclables:

In addition to performing proper repairs I also work to control the waste stream leaving the shop. The following items are sent to authorized recycling facilities or licensed hazardous waste treatment companies:

  • Used Lubricants (i.e. engine oil or transmission fluid)
  • Used Antifreeze-Coolant
  • Batteries (automotive and other)
  • Contaminated Fuel
  • Spent Cleaning Solvents
  • Lead Wheel Weights
  • Mercury Containing Lights (including fluorescent tubes)
  • E-Waste (computer parts and relays)
  • Refrigerants (Freon)
  • Miscellaneous Scrap Metal
  • Recyclable Plastics
  • Unused Residual Materials
